“When my mum fell ill, I started to go through life with one question: ‘How is my current experience affecting my voice?’. Since this period was rife with grief, joy, love, rage and the extremes of emotional experience, this was a very informative time.”
So I started doing all this stuff and I started really exploring energy in the body and my mum had been an acupuncturist so I'd grown up around holistic healing my whole life and she always talked about her treatments etc etc and so when my mom fell ill a couple of years later I really I really had gone all in with spiritual and healing stuff I'd already done
I was able to really observe myself
and I had a fundamental question in mind:
how is my current experience affecting my voice?
I began to see through these turbulent times how, when I was in rage or grief or joy, peace, love it gave a particular sound quality to my voice. When I was feeling grief or rage or joy or when that was present in my system but it was repressed for example if I really felt a need to cry but I couldn't or if I needed to cry but it wasn't in conscious awareness, then it removed a certain sound from the full dimensionality of the voice. Hence, I started being able to hear the psyche in the voice.
When I started working with people in this way it was very useful but it was also tricky because we all have our own certain ideas and boxes around what anger is and whether it's good and bad and how to deal with it.
There were too many barriers to communication, healing and, of course, a free singing voice. As I kept growing in my Alexander technique work and kept flowing in my life, my understanding and my teaching developed. I now started to diagnose physical blockages with vocal blockages. I would hear people’s physical blocks from their voice. Again, this is perhaps less esoteric than it sounds. I can hear the WHOLE POTENTIALITY OF THE VOICE. Then I hear where the person’s voice actually is and I can see how to bring them to their full voice. Kind of like how an art teacher can look at a painting that a student has done and see how it could look if the student made the lights lighter and darks darker, or implemented certain extra colours to reallyy make the painting pop. They see the potentiality for the final painting, and can then diagnose what’s missing from there.

It all begins with an idea. Maybe you want to launch a business. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more. Or maybe you have a creative project to share with the world. Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.
